Training Overview

Our goal is to promote and teach sailing at the basic cruising level. We sail on Lac Deschênes on the Ottawa River all summer, out of the Aylmer Marina, (CVGR) as well as organizing weeklong, live-about cruises in Georgian Bay and other locations such as Lake Ontario, Lake Champlain and the West Indies.

As a member you may take part in workshops, boat maintenance, join a Trial Sailing Program, sign-up for Canada’s National Sailing Authority, Sail Canada, Basic Cruising Standard Certificate (a formal four-day course involving theoretical and practical instruction), or simply learn sailing at your own pace through participation and experience.

We offer:

-       A course and examination for the Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card

-       Classroom sessions on related subjects such as Weather, Navigating on the Ottawa River, etc..

-       A Trlal Sailing Program

-       The Sail Canada Basic Cruising Certificate course.  (To take this course you must be registered for the Summer of Sailing in Aylmer program or a Combined program .

-       On occasion, we are able to offer a course leading to the Sail Canada Intermediate Cruising Certificate.

Please note that we are not able to offer courses on the full range of sailing related knowledge, but we can direct you to organizations that do offer these courses.  For example we do not offer First Aid, the Radio Operator’s License, nor the Coastal Navigation Standard.

*With sufficient interest, the CENTRE organizes workshops on the fundamentals of coastal navigation.   The focus is on Lake Deschenes but the principles learned can be applied elsewhere.  Sessions are normally two to four hours.

These workshops are free to members participating in the Summer of Sailing in Aylmer program or in a Combined program
